It’s hard to find any place along the North Shore of Lake
Superior that is not amazingly beautiful, but Black Beach is definitely one of
my favorite spots! It is secluded and we pretty much had the place to
ourselves. We only saw around six people the whole time we were there. This is a
crazy concept for a southerner that is used to very crowed places!
This area is privately owned and was only recently opened in
2015 for public use.
This unique beach is made up of fine grained black taconite.
It appears gray in the photos, but looks black in person, especially when it is
wet.
There are several picnic tables and a few fire pits to enjoy
a picnic or fire. The water is a little cool, but the weather is great, even in
August.
